People have different views about whether happiness comes from money and luxury or from non-material things like bonds with other people and experiences in life. While having an abundant amount of money can greatly facilitate life, I firmly believe that relationships and experiences are more important for fulfillment.
On the one hand, it is evident that satisfaction is partly derived from material possessions and comfort. As humans we tend to strive towards affluence because it can greatly ease our lives, make them more comfortable, and give us prestige and social status. Things such as gourmet meals, luxury cars, lavish mansions, and a status as part of an elite society are what tempts us to seek wealth. Moreover, if a certain individual is wealthy enough, he has a power to some extent: power to command other people. For instance, the richest person in the world Elon Musk is in charge of thousands if not millions of people. Also, he eats whatever he wants, buys whatever he wants and can do what his soul commands him to do. That is the reason why so many people are willing to gain wealth.
On the other hand, it is perhaps more crucial to have valuable people around as well as having meaningful activities to do. In my opinion, happiness in life is defined by the number of happy moments in life. A person can create numerous long-lasting memories with his loved ones, and realising that he has people who could support him in times of hardships is even more soothing. At the same time, it is equally important to spend time engaging in a favourite activity. For instance, involving oneself in a hobby when faced with stress and overload can increase life satisfaction and help build long-term happiness.
In conclusion, I understand why some people might want to possess material things to be happy, but it seems to me that having people who are closely tied with you and are supportive, and possessing rich experience in life is more desirable to be more fulfilled and happy.
