In the modern world, a topic of contreversy is whether internet is a need to be given by the government or a paid previlige. But as we progress towards an internet dependent society, I believe it should be a given right.
On the first hand, internet access is known for entertainment and coomunication, which even before internet were paid services. What was cable TV and landline services has transformed in the contemporary age to streaming services and social media apps. Keeping it paid can open space for private companies and investors to partake in the market.
On the other hand, however, you cannot function nowadays without having at least a phone with internet access. Applying to jobs and universities, booking tickets, paying bills, shopping, ordering takeout and more has all become reliant on internet access. Blocking that service behind paywalls will widen the gap between the poor and their counterparts, making their day-to-day lives much harder than it should be.
I conclusion, as technology progresses and the world keeps up with it, I believe it is important to give all members of society equal footing virtually.
