A section of society believes that if a child performs any act that is against laws must be reprimanded whereas, another section believes that it is parents who are responsible for the actions of their children and hence they should be punished. Let us discuss both the views in detail in subsequent paragraphs followed by my old perspective.
On the first hand, where every country is amending so many laws including one to check that all the rules are being followed by their citizens, everyone should always abide by those instructions. Having said that, the supervision to follow the legislations properly should be kept on both minors, and adults not agreeing to which is an offense that must definitely be subjected to some kind of punishment. To explicate, the ‘Nirbhaya case’ of Delhi, India that came in limelight in the year 2019 included a group of criminals of various ages. The supreme court sentenced all of them with some pre-defined age specific punishments, whether he was a juvenile or an aged man.This was justful to the one who was sexually abused and then died.
On the other hand, it is also deeply believed by a group of community that people who are under adult are prone to make mistakes and therefore they must be handled with some guidance from their parents or teachers. Negative reinforcement is not a legible solution for young ones as they should be given an opportunity to improve themselves. This can happen only if their elders or certain law framing agencies display a trust in them. Explicitly, one cause to consider the same is the hormonal imbalance that a child of age ranging from approximately 11 years to 17 years goes through. An adolescent has a tendency to get confused when taking the decision. Henceforth, he or she may fall into an illegal trap. Taking into consideration the growing age of teenagers, their parents must be rebuked in order to keep a track of the actions made by their wards on daily basis because at this stage, parents are considered to be held responsible for every step their offsprings head to.
In my opinion, adults in the family are definitely the stakeholders of every activity executed by the children but, imposing laws and rewarding accordingly is necessary to stop children from any further crime that is not just harmful but dangerous to the society as well as to one’s own career.
