In the last few decades, countries from all over the globe have been chosen to hold worlds’s largest sports events such as the Olympics, FIFA World Cup and major football tournaments. Thus, they were presented an opportunity to either showcase the hospitality of their nation or, on contrary, prove the whole planet right that these events are utterly unjustifiable expenses. In this essay, I am going to consider two sports events, hosted in Russia and Germany respectively and explore how these sports festivals may have completely different effect on the way they are perceived.
Firstly, let us examine football tournament hosted in Russia in 2018. Numerous football facilities, with the usage of cutting-edge technology, have been constructed as a result of russian football association’s policy. What is more , the logistics system has completely met the requirements of this type of an event, enabling the visitors to travel rapidly and safely in order to attend all games, regardless of Russia’s overwhelming territory. Therefore, it comes as no surprise that this particular World Cup was later named FIFA’s best ever, owing to the total revenue brought to the table.
During the EURO 2024, european most remarkable football tournament held in Germany this summer, most fans had to face up to congested roads and limitless traffic the whole time. It has been reported by Sky-sports UK that dutch fanbase was late to their national team’s game due to the train’s delay in the city of Dusseldorf. Furthermore, had it not been for German government’s swift respond, the entire tournament might have been on the verge of collapse.
To conclude, many nations may have a tough time hosting world’s largest events, unless they are not well-prepared. Therefore, I am inclined to believe that the upper hand in terms of holding such tournaments should be given to financially stable and independent countries, equally bringing tangible revenue and satisfying the fans.
