Whether term-time holiday should be allowed due to the price and traffic advantages has been an contentious issue. In my view, governments need to ban this holiday immediately.
Admittedly, taking a trip during a semester indeed saves a large sum of money and avoids congested traffic, since most working adults are still occupied in their business. However, for students, everything pales into insignificance when compared with study as their academic records have a decisive role in their future. Therefore, kids should put a premium on their lessons rather than affordable trips.
From the perspective of school course, taking a trip holiday during a term will inevitably lead to a difficult recovery process for their study. Once students ask for a term-time travel leave, they will certainly skip some classes, which means that they may lag behind the peer level. Thus, they have to make up for the missed lessons when they come back from their little holidays. Whereas, it is not an easy task. According to psychological research, holiday belongs to high-stimulation activities, while study is a low-stimulation routine. This principle illustrates that it will take considerable time and effort for students to readjust their mindsets and physical states from an intense pleasure like travel to monotonous everyday curriculum. Therefore, it is not worthy to sacrifice their lessons for a tour.
From the perspective of educational management, term-time holidays may undermine school discipline. Asking for a trip holiday is not merely a personal behavior but a potentially contagious practice, which is likely to ignite other students’s desires for trip leaves or even leaves for other reasons, thereby impairing the fairness of rules and disrupting the academic atmosphere. Hence, the domino effects of school-time holidays can jeopardize the sound class environment.
All in all, given its individual and collective ramifications, term-time holiday is intolerable. It is imperative to ban term-time holidays before it is too late.
