Opinions are divided on whether the main attention of a nation should be on local or international news. Although both views hold merits to a certain extent, I personally believe that a striking balance between two types of news would be the most optimal approach.
On the one hand, proponents of focusing on local contents would emphasize the relevant matters towards citizens daily lives. As national news is often associated with information in the surrounding regions, such as weather forecasts or traffic updates, these up-to-date details would allow individuals to manage their schedule effectively and avoid making rush decisions. Furthermore, local news would also enhance the community’s awareness. For instance, by observing ongoing urgent problems, including the environmental deterioration or crimes’ rates through local news, residents would remain in constant vigilance. As a result, such coverage would enhance individuals’ knowledge towards current issues and eventually promote collective action among community members to tackle such severe issues.
On the other hand, advocates for the previous opinion would believe that international news would also strengthen the bond between many countries around the world. Since the demand for universal measurements towards several pressing issues, such as personal liberties or medical shortages, might need a strong collaboration of many countries to offer support according to financial resources and technologies. Such problems would mainly be addressed effectively by the acknowledgement of global news by many nations. Additionally, local individuals could also benefit from such contents. Nowadays, globalization has both merits and demerits for individuals’ income potential, meaning that constantly adapting to changes and taking alternative approaches to meet trending developments and demands to attract tourists is indispensable for local citizens to secure their economic status and living standards.
In conclusion, while both types of news would offer a number of benefits for citizens, I contend that both forms play similar pivotal roles in today’s society, and a balance getting information by individuals could be a more sufficient way.
