One school of thought holds that those who perform pop music deserve to earn more money than those of classical music, however, others agree to the contrary. In this essay, I will scrutinize both views before concluding that I agree with the former.
On the one hand, it is understandable why many people think that the performers of classical music deserve to earn a fortune more than the pop stars. The primary rationale is that being a classical music performer takes a lot of time and effort as they have to undergo years of intensive training including playing instruments, performing live on the stage. Absolutely, if a person wants to adept at an instrument in a comprehensive way, it would take at least 1 or 2 years. For example, My Linh, a famous diva in VietNam, had spent her whole life developing her singing technique. The proponents also emphasize that those who pursue traditional music play an important role in preserving traditional values. So by receiving high income, it is seen as a means to foster them to continue what they were doing, alleviate career change rates. In this case, it is justifiable that the classical music performers deserve to earn more money than the pop stars.
On the other hand, I side with those who advocate higher earnings of pop performers. Firstly, the aforementioned thinking is an overthinking one. Nowadays, to become a star, not only those who are majoring in classical music need to have a thorough understanding about vocal technique, interdisciplinary performance but also pop celebrities. Reaching the pinnacle of their career means that they have strived a lot. In addition to this, unlike the classical performers, these pop stars just have a short-lived career. Due to a constant changing of the music industry, just about 5 or 10 years they are easily replaced by other more dynamic ones. Moreover, since they are aware of their significant impact on people, especially teenagers, they always try hard to appear in the best condition which means that they have to spend a lot of money in many sectors such as beauty, clothes. Therefore, it is logical that stars performing pop music should earn more money.
In conclusion, although artists of classical music sacrifice their life for mastering skills, retain traditional values, I would contend that the pop stars deserve to earn more money because of their short-lived career and their responsibility in maintaining positive images.
