Band 6+: Some people believe that public money should not spent on cultural amenities such as museums, theatres, and art festivals. How important do you think these things are to society as a whole ? Are there any areas which are more important for governments to fund?

Some believe that artistic cultural aspects of our lives such as museums and theaters should not be funded by the government. This essay will demonstrate how essential art is in society and the obligation to expend more on needs of civilians as well.

Evidently, culture and tradition are vital parts of humanity with its long history dating back to neandertal’s cave paintings; hence, the government is eager to spend money on museums and art galleries to preserve more of history. Moreover, now, citizens use drawings, sculptures, and music as a form of self-expression, leading to many be against this statement because they feel that it limits them. This improves quality of life in current state of the world.

However, admittedly, there are urgent needs of the community such as healthcare. Most believe the government should fund the overall healthcare system in order for the elderly, lower class families, or the workers to live a good life. Furthermore, paying to improve the infrastructure of residential areas is another indispensable standard of living. For example, many cannot get good rest because of noise and light pollution outside of their windows. Finally, ensuring the safety of our future by investing more into sustainable consumerism is ideal for the environment in its current state. Taking care of nature, sponsoring research facilities, and encouraging environmentally-aware campaigns is beneficial for society.

In conclusion, artistic entertainment is crucial; however, there are far more important things to focus on such as well-being of society, infrastructure, and environmental concerns.
