There are people who are inclined to think that pupils should be taught exclusively those subjects which can significantly contribute to their career paths in the future, hence such disciplines as music and sports, for instance, are not of great value.
I tend to disagree with this statement for two main reasons.
Firstly, music and sports are important in terms of training the brain and muscles. For example, various studies prove that children, who used to play a musical instrument or to sing, were more able to solve complex problems at work and improvise than their colleagues, since practicing music makes both parts of the brain function simultaneously. In general, art develops creative thinking, which is undoubtedly important for the career in the future when a major part of jobs will be taken by AI. It is evident that sports contribute to the physical and mental wellbeing, as well as to the discipline, which accompany every successful person.
Secondly, activities that have not a direct connection to the future job can extend a view of life and the world and therefore make childrens’ approach toward them more flexible and broadened. Kids, whose opportunities are not cut by limitations, can see the world in a more optimistic way. Besides, sports and music may become hobbies and help make friends, which is significant for a happy childhood and for the social life in the future.
In conclusion, I would like to underline that a school programme, which comprises different subjects can rather develop than limitate a child.
