Schools play a vital role in a student’s life that goes beyond just their education. Schools are where a child develops his social skills and emotional intelligence. Both the family and the school are equally responsible for inculcating the right moral values and helping to build character in a student. The experiences that a student has in their school life is responsible for shaping their self confidence and hence it is imperative that schools encourage their students and display appreciation when they excel in any arena.
As we have already established, schools must encourage and reward their students in order to instil confidence and foster an environment of healthy and spirited competition with their peers. When it comes to academics, students who show excellent academic performance usually tend to stand out and are recipients of multiple rewards acknowledging their good performace and encouraging them to display the same levels of hardwork and consistency in the future as well. While it is important to encourage exceptional academic records, it is equally necessary to motivate other students.
There are lots of students who are generally not acknowledged because their academic record is not as noteworthy. These students tend to feel dejected and unmotivated. It is imperative that schools also encourage and reward these students when they push their limits and work hard to improve their grades. One of my classmates wasn’t very academically gifted and would generally not even try to work hard due to a lack of motivation. Our english teacher used to regularly encourage her and offer help with her academics. She started working really hard and greatly improved her score and was praised in front of the entire class. This one singular incident led her to working hard and living up to her potential. If one teacher alone could make such a difference in a student’s life, one can imagine the impact if all schools started showing the same level of consideration and appreciation for their students.
In conclusion, while it is great that students with stellar academic performances are rewarded, schools also need to recognize the potential of other students and motivating them to work hard and improve their grades as well.
