In every society, some groups argue that the government must scrutinize and lead experimental research, while others are in favor of the private corporations carrying out scientific studies. In my opinion, there should be a collaborative approach between the government and private companies, so everyone will benefit from the progress of science.
To start with, the control of governments over scientific experiments has a few advantages. Firstly, governments often conduct research based on public interest and assure the safety of such projects. For example, when a pandemic is rising in a society, the prime focus of science institutes and the first priority of the authorities will be to find a cure and manufacture vaccines. Secondly, compared to personal research or incorporated projects, the government can sponsor new experiments and dedicate funds, which are gathered from taxpayers, to aid technological and empirical advances in society.
However, long-lived impacts of studies that are conducted by the private companies should be highlighted as well. Firstly, private labs are often pioneers in directing innovative and authentic investigations. Also, their results and hypothesis are fundamentally unbiased because they are not influenced by political ideologies or campaigns. Secondly, such research is more specialized. For example, some companies’ missions are to develop theoretical science in biotechnology. So, to achieve that goal, they hire the best experts in biotechnology and manage their budgets more mindfully.
In conclusion, I believe the best approach for the sakes of science is to maintain an unbiased collaboration between the public and the private sectors. In this way, society’s needs will be met scientifically and private entrepreneurs get a chance to develop their innovative research.
