Nowadays, violent crimes and other disturbing events are frequently reported on television and newspapers. While some people believe that such news should be restricted because of its negative consequences, others argue that the public has the right to receive information. In my opinion violent news should not be completely banned, but unnecessary details should be limited.
On the one hand, media coverage of violent crimes can have several negative effects. Firstly, constantly hearing about criminal activities may make people feel unsafe, even in the areas where crime rates are really low. As a result, they may become anxious and avoid going outside particularly at night. Secondly, children can be especially vulnerable to disturbing news. Repeated exposure to violent images may cause them feel frightened and could negatively effect their mental health. Furthermore, providing too many details about criminal acts may encourage individuals to immitate such behaviour.
On the other hand, completely restricting violent news could prevent people from understanding important problems in society. One of the main reasons is that people have the right to know about possible dangers and protect themselves. For example, news reports can warn people about dangerous criminals and help them stay safe. Moreover media coverage can help solve crimes by encouraging witnesses to share information. it can also put pressure on the police to investigate serious crime. Finally, a free press is important in a democratic country, and strict rule may stop people from learning the truth.
In conclusion, although violent news can make people feel afraid, I do not think that it should be banned. Instead the media should inform people without sharing disturbing information.
