We are all well aware that everyone wants to achieve success in their lives, but what is the most essential trait to attain it? While some argue that it is about hard work and long-term practice, others believe that talent is far more crucial. This duality of effort and talent continues to stir debate in defining success. In this essay, I will discuss both sides before presenting my own viewpoint.
Undoubtedly, pushing hard matters. Supporters of this view argue that skills can be acquired and refined through persistent practice, regardless of innate ability. This is not just a phenomenon, it is a principle that might bring everyone to the right point. Michelangelo once said, “If people knew how hard I worked to get my mastery, it would not seem so wonderful at all”. Even though talent may provide initial advantages and make the process easier, it is frequently eclipsed by relentless dedication over time.
There is no doubt that pushing hard plays a pivotal role in attaining success, but the role of the talent cannot be ignored either. Talent can be seen as a form of destiny. For instance, if someone is naturally gifted in law it may be difficult for them to thrive as an artist, yet becoming a lawyer will be far easier than any other profession. Talent cannot be acquired by practice, it is something that everyone has present from birth and this plays a fundamental role in forming their future.
In my opinion, both of these factors are essential in reaching one’s goals. Even if you work hard but lack talent — or, on the contrary, have talent but do not develop it — the chances of reaching your destination are quite small.
