Some individuals claim that the development of artificial intelligence has negative impacts on people’s career opportunities. In contrast, others think that work performed by humans will always be essential. Although both schools of thought offer merit, I agree more with the opinion that human labor still holds an important position in life.
On the one hand, there are some major rationales that explain why some people think that artificial intelligence has the potential to replace human labor. In this day and age, many types of machines are created with countless advanced features that can help workers complete their jobs more efficiently and generate greater revenue than people. Many robotic machines have already taken over roles that were traditionally occupied by humans in factories and other workplaces. For instance, in the banking sector, banks have improved operational efficiency by using automation technology. Since automated machines can operate continually at higher speeds, the banks have improved customer experience and minimized operating costs by 25%-50%.
On the other hand, humans will always remain essential to the workforce because there are many tasks that machines cannot do as well as humans. In fact, the ability of machines to match or exceed human efficiency is currently limited to very few professions. For example, although the technology for robotic surgery was developed long ago, the procedures they can perform are limited, and humans still carry out most surgical operations. Furthermore, even if robotic surgeons were to be utilized more, it is likely that they would only be used under the supervision of trained surgeons who could step in if something went wrong. Similarly, the government cannot replace teachers with robotic machines to teach students at school, because they can provide knowledge accurately but cannot support children in comprehensively accessing information or connect with them through emotional aspects.
In conclusion, there are mixed opinions on determining the best source of workforce. I believe that both human labor and artificial intelligence have certain value, but it is undeniable that people’s labor always plays an important role in the workplaces.
