Technology has been in integral part of our daily life nowadays. In every social layer, people at work, students at school, mothers at home, they are all connected to technology for anykind of purpose. This essay will specifically discuss the use of technology in learning. It is argued that the adoption of technology brings significant positive impacts in education. However, some people are more into the downsides of it.
Admittedly, there are many benefits of using technology in learning. It helps the process of learning less boring and limitless. Less boring because students can look-up a vast range of interactive visual aid to help them understand certain topic such as from youtube, numerous applications, social media, etc. Limitless means students can do research for almost anything they are curious about. For instance, students who wants to do research about child development, they can start build their bibliography from free journals in google scholars. Other examples are, students who wants to learn foreign language can do it independently by utilizing interactive apps like duolingo, those who wants to practice their English speaking are also able to do so at home by using artificial intelligence that will act as a native speaker to help them practice.
By contrast, supporters on the other end, seen technology as something that are more of a drawbacks than beneficial. Young learners become addicted to online games, social media, binge video or movie watching, etc. Those activities inflict a sedentary lifestyle which may leads to a social, physical and mental health issues. Some concerns include, irritability due to overstimulation, fatigueness as a result of lack in physical activity, social awkwardness as not connecting to real life and real people.
Overall, it appears to me that the stronger argument is in favors of technology benefits outweighed its negative effects in learning. With technology, students are able to learn more effective and efficient. Provided that they are being educated about how to use it wisely, safely, and securely.
