It is believed by few people that films are merely about entertainment, while some opinions claim that they should be able to educate their audiences. In my view, these can be both amusing and entertaining. This essay will discuss the point further providing valid opinions to support these views.
The perspective which says that movies are meant only to entertain is reasonable. Firstly, it is true that watching movies after long working hours, specifically some genres, namely comedy or action can generate exhilaration and hilarity among viewers. This impulses are scientifically proven to be able to energize the human body and help become them more productive on their work. Secondly, there are numerous of pictures that would attract large number of viewers without any educational content. For example, when it comes to a horror film, people who are watching only seek thrill in scary scenes. Therefore, it might have given the public the impression that the creation of movies is only devoted for entertainment.
The view that conveys that films should have educational content is also valid. Educational values of films are of paramount importance to society thus should not be neglected. Today, half of nation who watch movies are children. Movies can create greater impact on children but it solely depends on what kind of movie they watch. For example, if they are watching action drama, they may become stubborn, aggressive etc. If they are into some important informative films or real world issues such as global warming or climate change changes, they can learn and conduct an action to avoid these problems. Hence this is the reason that led people to feel films should have educational content.
In conclusion, both views appear reasonable to certain extent. In my opinion movies should truly entertain people and simultaneously provide them great educational
