In recent years, criminal cases have been increasing at an alarming rate. While some feel that those who commit heinous crimes should get the death penalty, I, however, agree with those who feel that killing is not a viable solution. In the forthcoming paragraphs, I will explain both sides and share my opinion with relevant examples.
On the one side, it could be argued that offenders should be sentenced to death if they have committed a serious crime. Supporters of this trend believe that criminals are not going to learn anything if officials put them behind bars for several years, so these people must be hanged as it will reduce the crime rate on the earth. For instance, governments of different countries have the provision of capital punishment for those who engage in heinous crimes, resulting in fewer illegal cases than the rest of the world.
On the other side, many people, including myself, believe that killing someone for their criminal activities is inhuman, and the authorities must consider other ethical solutions. They can assign lawbreakers some unpaid work for society as this will not only keep them occupied but will also give them an opportunity to rectify their mistakes. For example, in Nepal, violators of traffic rules are assigned to work as traffic volunteers, which has resulted in decreasing accidents and lawlessness, along with the people improving their errors.
In conclusion, although the death penalty for serious criminals can decline their numbers on the earth, voluntary work can give them a chance to work for the betterment of the community. Therefore, I feel that officials should consider moralistic punishments for justifiable and tolerable crimes.
