Many support the idea that people should not pay taxes to the state; instead, they believe they should save the amount of the tax. In my opinion, I mostly agree that every individual should pay their taxes regularly because it is crucial to sustain a government that regulates and ensures the safety of society. However, the tax policy of states must be as transparent as possible and determined by the people who provide their revenue to pay taxes.
First of all, every individual who has some sort of revenue should pay taxes if they receive any benefit from the state. Hence, each penny must be considered as a budget that returns as a benefit to individuals who pay taxes. For instance, in Switzerland, every state reports its spending and accepts any judgment from citizens because it is paid by the people and must serve the people. Consequently, it has the highest welfare index among all countries around the world. If a community gives up its hard-earned money, it should get a return. Moreover, this return might be safety for each individual, education for every pupil, or health benefits. However, these benefits should be chosen by individuals and based on their needs, just as in Switzerland. As a result, residents must pay their taxes if they receive the benefits they choose; the procedure must be democratic.
Secondly, not everyone earns the same amount of money, and the taxation process must consider the amount of revenue that people earn. Thus, it should not be a fixed tax rate for everyone; it should be a percentage, according to research by the University of Chicago that proves that the prosperity of institutions and governments is based on how their actions are fair and just for each individual. Therefore, this tax percentage would not hurt anyone who earns less than the average but should get more from the valuable part to sustain the benefits they should provide in return for taxes. To conclude, the amount of taxation requires an assessment of each citizen for the society to function smoothly without hurting any member of the community.
Overall, tax policies must be managed by the people who pay the taxes; if it is a democratic process, everyone must sacrifice some amount of their earnings in return for the benefits they choose. Additionally, taxes are essential for maintaining a functional and secure society. Therefore, individuals should fulfill their tax obligations, provided that the government remains transparent and accountable in its use of public funds.
