Some individuals believe it is of no value for modern society to study history, whereas others argue that the past can offer useful information for us. Personally, although I understand the former view, I am more inclined toward the latter.
Admittedly, some may claim that learning about historical experiences provides no advantage. According to this view, digging deeper into the past cannot change anything because all historical events like crises and evolutions that happened in the past should be left behind. As a result, paying attention to contemporary society is more important. Nevertheless, this perspective overlooks the fact that what we have today is the result of past experiences. For example, the invention of light bulb was the outcome of more than 1000 failed experiments conducted by Thomas Edison. Therefore, we should apply the past lessons in today society in order to avoid making mistakes.
In my opinion, historical events can bring a lot of helpful information for people. The primary reason is that it can help us know about our roots. For example, by researching DNA, scientists can point out our ancestors and the human development. Thus, it makes people reflect on the past and keep moving to the future. Furthermore, it also maintains the national identity of a country. If the artifacts and ancient ruins were not studied, the following generations would not know and preserve their cultural heritage.
In conclusion, while it is thought by some that it is not useful to study from history, my view is that history can offer valuable knowledge.
