Some people believe that films are watched solely for entertainment, while others argue that films have educational value. Both views will be discussed, and I believe that the former view is more persuasive.
On the one hand, there are several educational benefits of films. First of all, films can provide valuable life lessons which offer insights into social issues such as poverty, discrimination and environmental problems. These can draw people’s attention to social issues easily by raising public awareness. In addition, films can be effective visual learning materials. For example, they can be used as efficient visual learning resources. They help people learn about history, social issues and other cultures more easily. They can also offer viewers indirect experiences of situations that they may not experience themselves. As a result, they can broaden people’s horizons and expand knowledge.
On the other hand, the primary purpose of films is entertainment. First and foremost, many people watch films to relax and escape from daily life. Films allow individuals to escape from their daily routines for a while. Secondly, films are fundamentally a form of entertainment, and they are an important source of entertainment for people of all ages. Moreover, most films are produced for commercial purposes. Film producers aim to attract audiences and generate profits, so their films often contain stimulating storylines, dramatic scenes and entertaining characters.
In conclusion, although films can have educational value by raising individuals’ awareness and providing indirect experiences, I believe that the primary purpose is entertainment because most films are commercially produced and may contain stimulating storylines. Therefore, films should not automatically be regarded as reliable educational sources.
