In today’s globalized world, the education field is one of the most important and is gaining the most attention in terms of development. Thus, there has been an ongoing debate about whether the purpose of learning is to set up learners to be helpful to the community or is to accomplish their personal goals. From my perspective, both statements are possible.
To begin with, one of the fundamental aims of education is to cultivate awareness in individuals regarding their own behaviours and responsibilities. To explain, in a society where educational attainment is high, there might be a corresponding reduction in crime rates when humans are more mindful about their manners, which leads the public to its betterment. Additionally, it plays a crucial role in decreased the population growth from births, focusing on family planning. Moreover, individuals who pursue education gain access to a wealth of knowledge and significantly increased employment opportunities. Research has found that occupations requiring formal certification such as those in healthcare and engineering, have a profound impact on public welfare.
On the other hand, being educated is the main method for people to enhance their skills and knowledge, leading to their exploration of major interests. In other words, formal education serves as a platform for individuals to identify careers that align with their passions and capabilities. For example, people eager to be medical professionals must engage in-depth studies of human anatomy, medical procedures, and other relevant fields.
In conclusion, the purpose of study can be dynamic and may vary according to individual aspirations and societal needs. Both opinions-leading scholars to advantages for surrounding people and helping them achieve their own ambitions-are essential components of a resillient education system. An effective learning system should combine these two objectives, fostering learners who are not only achievers but also contributors to the collective well-being of society.
