Some argue that education is designated for people to contribute to societies, whilst others believe that they should be entitled to achieve their personal objectives. Personally, I believe that both aspects should be considered and I will elaborate on both in the following.
On the one hand, the main purpose of education should be the betterment of a nation. This is because in most countries, public schools are funded by the government’s budgets at the expense of taxpayer’s money. For this reason, it is important to prioritize their effort to create school curriculums that can produce engineers, physicians and social workers who can contribute the citizens. In doing so, members of the societies can benefit from the new medicines invented by the doctors as well as bridges designed and constructed by the civil engineers.
On the other hand, most individuals go to schools for their future personal developments. That is to say that ordinary folks decide to pursue their degrees in colleges out of the will of providing themselves with a better life. To earn such a degree, it often takes arduous effort to do researches and studies in order to successfully complete the courses. Therefore, it would only be fair if they are entitled to earn a decent income in order to fulfill their personal desire in their life.
In my opinion, I believe that societies should allow individuals to achieve their ambitions meanwhile maintaining a school system that ensures the country’s benefit as a whole.
To conclude, when it comes to education, it would be wise to create a system that recognizes individual’s ambitions while focusing on maximizing social developments.
