Nowadays some people believe that universities should admit the same number of men and women for every course. I disagree with this opinion because students should not be accepted based on their gender, but abilities and interests.
First of all, accepting the same number of male and female students in every subject can be a complicated system. Because universities would have to control the number of students and change the number of places for each course. This could make the admission process more difficult and ineffective. For example, educational facilities would need to check the number of male and female students and try to stick to the equality principle, which could make this process much more longer and less practical.
Beside previous disadvantage, I believe that system would be unfair because not everyone will have the same opportunity to enter a course. This is mainly because a male student with high grades in a course which is mostly chose by men would have less chances to enroll than a female with low grades in the same subject due to higher competition among men. The same thing applies to a course with mainly female applicants – more competition for women, less for men. For example, a boy with excellent grades might not get a place in an engineering course, while a girl with lower grades could be accepted simply because fewer girls applied.
In conclusion, I disagree that having the same number of male and female students is a good idea, because this system could be complicated and completely unfair.
