In this day and age, people start to care more about their health by consuming healthier diets and doing exercise in order to maintain a healthy body. It is often argued that whether people, who are vegetarians, are healthier and have more benefits to their bodies and whether people try to establish a no-meat environment is better for the world are some highly controversial and complex topics. Although there are valid arguments to the contrary, in this essay I will examine both sides of the argument and provide a balanced view.
On the one hand, there is academic research that shows that citizens of all countries in this modern era have a higher chance of obesity due to their unhealthy lifestyle and meals. For instance, fast food restaurants like KFC provide hamburgers, which encompass a little of vegetables, are cheaper and easier to eat. Therefore, by comparing those who eat vegetables to those who only consume meat, we could find people, who tend to eat vegetables, are much healthier. Like residents in Vietnam, they almost have the lowest rate of obesity in the world. Additionally, in terms of nature, the number of wild animals is notably decreasing as more people need to consume meat, thereby disturbing ecosystems and biodiversity. This means that the issue of animal extinction is exacerbated.
On the other hand, according to scientists’ analysis, protein is the most essential nutrient for people and it can be easily gained by eating meat. Protein acts as a crucial role in our body, especially for teenagers who need to grow during their puberty. Hence, a balanced diet, which contains adequate amounts of meat and vegetables, is necessary for adolescents. On top of that, culture-wise, almost every signature cuisine of any country contains meat. To further illustrate, the conventional and traditional meal and custom of each country is harder to be preserved if people start to not eat meat.
In conclusion, it is evident that one perspective is more convincing than the other, based on the evidence and arguments provided that people can have healthier bodies that they can avoid sickness. Besides, a no-meat society is more friendly to nature and it is not detrimental to the environment. In my opinion, I prefer people to become vegetarian in light of the aforementioned reasons.
