The role of teachers in the life of a student is highly debatable. While some people believe that the main focus of teachers need to be on academics, others believe that motivation should be considered equally important. In my opinion, teachers must find a balance between the two for the success of their students.
To begin with, it is an undeniable fact that most jobs require good qualifications. It is therefore of utmost importance that academic subjects are taught properly at schools. Teachers need to ensure that students put more effort on subjects that will meet the requirements for their degrees and will hence benefit them in their careers later on in life. For instance, Mathematics is one of the subjects which is required in various fields such as in engineering and computing.
However, students should not be taught in a strict manner. Some students may not be good in certain subjects and they need to be motivated for them to excel. Educators and students need to work as team to explore the students’ strengths and weaknesses. For example, some students may be better in non-academic subjects such as the arts. Encouragements from teachers can help them to reach their fullest potential in those subjects which will consequently make them successful.
To conclude, focusing exclusively on academic subjects must not be sole aim of educators. The ultimate goal of education is for the students to succeed which can boosted by motivation from teachers.
