Increasing artificial intelligence, computers, and robots will beneficial to human’s life, nevertheless the teacher’s role is still important. In my opinion, there are several aspect of teacher’s role that can’t be replace by artificial intelligence, computers, and robots such as develop higher order thinking skills and self-attitude.
Nowadays, the massive development of artificial intelligence, computers, and robots may be very useful for human life. Especially in education field. This spectacular invention will transform education. Students will easier to learn with different style, many references, and there will no monotone learning atmosphere. Teachers will expect to build an enjoyable learning with the help of technology. This kind of phenomena, leads the question: can the role of teacher be redundant? For me, I strongly said No it can’t. Teachers are still have an important duties in learning process. There are several skills that can’t develop with this technology.
First, the development of students higher order thinking skills (critical thinking, problem solving skills) depend on teachers. Technology may provide many references, and answers all the questions quickly. However, students need to experience the process of find that answer. Students need to analyse the problem, create a hypothesis, and find the solution by conduct an experiment. This process need the help of teachers. Teacher can be a facilitator for students during the process. They should motivate students to analyse a problems and led them to find the best solution. This role can’t be replace by technology.
Second, teacher has a responsibility as a role model for student. Education has a goal for creating good student in cognitive, affective, and psychomotor aspect. The cognitive aspect may can develop by unconditional resources from technology however, the affective and psychometric aspect especially self-attitude can’t. Students need the led from the teachers to develop this skills. Students will learn how to be discipline by come into the class and submit the assignment on time, how to respect others by giving their attention to teachers or their peer when they explain the topic, and students will develop their collaborative and communication skills during the learning process. This kinds of experience needs the help of teachers.
Learning process will be more fun and full of enjoyment with the help of artificial intelligence, computers, and robots. However, the role of the teachers can’t be replaced. It will not redundant but it will transforms. Teachers should use technology to make an enjoyable learning process and develop higher order thinking skills and self-attitude.
