Band 8+: Some people like to try new things, for example, places to visit and types of food. Other people prefer to keep doing things they are familiar with. Discuss both these attitudes and give your own opinion.

Nowadays, there is a contentious issue concerning whether individuals should embrace new experiences in various aspects of their daily lives, such as dining at recently opened restaurants or visiting less popular travel destinations. While some may hold contrasting views, I am of the opinion that there is no adverse effect to this phenomenon.

On the one hand, there are numerous reasons to justify this trend. Firstly, human nature is inclined towards breaking out of comfort zones, as it serves as a catalyst for personal growth. In other words, individuals often seek novelty to fulfill their innate needs. The widespread adoption of the YOLO (You Only Live Once) mentality in recent years serves as a prime example of this trend. Secondly, embracing new experiences allows individuals to discover and develop new capabilities. Without this exploration, societies may face systemic issues arising from an uneven distribution of expertise. For instance, senior students in Japan are encouraged to engage in career-oriented courses spread across their school years, giving them the opportunity to gain exposure to various working environments. Consequently, they can identify their strengths and seek suitable employment opportunities upon graduation.

On the other hand, opponents of this trend may argue that sticking to familiar routines helps them avoid making risky decisions. Specifically, since these familiar routines have been repeatedly implemented without negative consequences, they are deemed the most suitable course of action. For instance, a frequent flyer may feel uneasy choosing a new airline to travel with due to the uncertainty it may bring.

In conclusion, while traditionalists may argue that embracing new experiences in life may have negative impacts, I personally believe that the benefits outweigh the drawbacks when it comes to individual development.

School education is an important part of the journey toward a profession. My opinion is that secondary schools should provide basic education including history, biology, chemistry etc. On the surface, it seems clear […]

The government should encourage everyone to eat more fruit because fruit contains vitamin c which is good for the health. To what extend do you agree or disagree?

While it is undeniable that fruits provide essential nutrients, including vitamin C, the proposition that governments should universally encourage increased fruit consumption presents an oversimplified perspective on public health. I partially agree with this statement, acknowledging the nutritional benefits of fruit whilst simultaneously recognizing that such blanket policies would be ineffective and potentially counterproductive. The […]
