Band 6+: Some people prefer to relax by doing physical activities, while others choose mental activities such as crossword puzzles or chess. Discuss the both views and include your own opinion.

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

Relaxation has been a debatable topic among people for many years. Some opt for doing recreational activities while they want to relax, while others prefer mental tasks such as solving a puzzle. This essay will discuss both views and draw a reasonable conclusion.

On the one hand, being physically active help individuals to avoid unnecessary thoughts and substantial stresses. In other words, people can reduce their amount of anxiety by participating in many different activities such as sports and other recreational exercises. For example, playing football can foster each person’s social skills besides promoting physical and mental health. As a result, if a person participated in such games, the possibility of experiencing unwanted stress would significantly decrease. Therefore, I believe that these ways of actives can contribute to better relaxation.

On the other hand, certain activities associated with brain engagement are the most favorite activities for some people. They argue that such tasks will improve individuals’ critical thinking, making them train their brain even in passive situations where they are relaxing. However, I assume that in some occasions, they might experience mental exhaustion. Although these activities may impact individuals’ brains, complexity of them would affect adversely at some point such as overdoing them.

To conclude, physical activities promote people’s mental and physical wellbeing, while mental tasks foster brain development. However, I think such activities may result in exhaustion. Therefore, I prefer physical exercises rather than mentally challenging ones while getting relaxed.
