Nowadays, the process of raising children is a very controversial issue, especially when it comes to their free time. Some people claim that parents should organize activities for children to do in their free time, while others say that the youth should have freedom of choice. I think there is merit to both sides of the argument, and it depends on how old the child is.
Firstly, it should be said that young children do not know what they want or what they could do with their leisure. Their best and most trustworthy source of information at this point in time are parents, who should show their children different activities and see what interests them. Secondly, youth can stick to only doing one thing in their spare time, especially so with new gadgets like phones, and it is up to their parents to encourage different activities.
On the other hand, it is worth remembering that after a certain age young people will develop their own interests on which they would want to spend most of their free time. This is also a point in time where children grow more independent, which means that they might not tell their parents about their interests, and so it may seem to the parents like their child is wasting their free time. Parents should also remember that if they try to control or force their children to do activities, it might only alienate them and make an activity they could enjoy a torture.
In conclusion, I think that both views are somewhat correct, and that as their child grows older the parents should give them more freedom and try to control their activities during free time less.
