There is an ongoing debate about the role of animals in human life. Some contend that the use of animals by humans is acceptable, while others claim that exploiting them is morally wrong. I assert that animals can be used for essential purposes, such as food or medical research, but their exploitation for unnecessary purposes should not be allowed.
On the one hand, it is often argued that animals are indispensable for human survival and development. They have been an essential part of human life, providing food, clothing, and even medical treatments. In many countries, people depend on animals such as cows and chickens as their main source of food, including meat, milk, and eggs. Moreover, animals play a crucial role in scientific research. Experiments conducted on living beings have contributed to the development of life-saving medicines and vaccines, which improve human health. Welfare-oriented organizations believe that if animals are treated and used responsibly, using them for such purposes is justifiable.
On the other hand, opponents claim that exploiting wildlife is fundamentally wrong. Animals are capable of feeling pain and suffering, like people, yet they are subjected to harsh conditions in industries such as factory farming and entertainment. For example, many animals in factory farms are kept in poor conditions, causing them significant suffering. Animal lovers believe that there are plenty of alternatives to test vaccines and pharmaceutical treatments. Advances in technology, including artificial testing methods, have reduced the need to rely on animals. Therefore, continuing to exploit them is viewed not only as outdated, but also unethical.
In my view, wildlife can be used for essential purposes such as food and medical research. However, strict regulations should be introduced to protect animal welfare. Unnecessary exploitation, such as for entertainment or cosmetic products, should be prohibited. A clear example of this is the use of laboratory animals in cosmetic testing, which can result in severe harm and, in some cases, death.
In conclusion, while animals play a crucial role in human life, their use should be limited to essential purposes such as food and medical research. Exploiting them for entertainment and cosmetic testing is inappropriate and unacceptable. I believe that a balance between human life and animal welfare is necessary.
