Some people think that advertising can be seen as encouraging the customers to buy their goods even though we do not really need that. On the other hand, some people think the advertisement is convenient in producing new products to them, which improve their daily lives. In my opinion, I agree to the first statement and my point of view will be illustrated in the below paragraphs.
Nowadays, people tend to spend times on social media, thus advertising is more likely to appear on this platform than others. They will have varieties of types in advertising their goods on social media. For example, the brands tend to choose the ambassadors who have the large numbers of followers on social media. Then, those famous people will advertise by showing up how to use the products and how those products are necessary on their lives. This led the followers to have FOMO – fear of missing out. In fact, for some customers, they do not need those products. But, they feel “fear of missing out” the convenience that the products bring for those famous people. On the other hand, some customers found they really need that products after watching those videos. They were seeking those products for the long time and this advertisement brings the products to them.
In my opinion, I agree to the first statement because I am also the person will buy the products based on watching advertisement even though I do not need that. For example, I have water bottle already. But, I have watched the reels on Instagram and there was the advertisement of pink bottle of water. I tend to buy this bottle immediately due to my favorite color and it looked good through advertisement.
In a conclusion, advertisement can be seen as creating the feeling FOMO for the customers. They tend to feel if they do not purchase this product, they will miss out the convenient of this product even though there is no need to buy it. I agree to this statement because I am one of those customers.
