Today’s technologies enable us to fulfill our daily tasks on electronic devices and what’s more, we can do it without energy and time-consuming effort. This makes some people to believe that elementary school students ought to be taught based on computer skills on main beginners subjects, like reading, writing and math.
Learning and adapting the arising modern environment is always demanded as a major stage of development. Convenience of cutting- edge technologies is causing our passion to dealing with them. It is reported that children’s learning and accepting information are much more higher than adults. So, teaching computer skills which is becoming indispensable part of our life, is being considered to begin in early ages might be effective on bringing up the qualified generation when working with gadgets. However, only working with gadgets can cause the restriction of handwriting among young people. Because students rely too much on computers, especially they learn to write reports using a word processor which could limit their knowledge on correct spelling rule. Consequently, young generation are excepted to become the group of people who will not be able to write a letter by hand without errors on spelling.
Additionally, we can see another negative impacts on reading. If children get used to reading on the computers, the demand for paler books, in the future, can be significantly reduced. Spending too much time in front of the computer screen might cause to the serious illness which is related to eye. To develop computer skills on major subjects of school curriculum may be the sign of adaption to progress. Nonetheless, it also means that young learners will not become proficient in some particular skills.
To sum up, of course, it is crucial to be advanced in fields of increasing demand and to teach them to the younger generation. But I think it is a mistake to put it in place of the original and basic skills, as well unchanging important concepts.
