Pharmaceutical organizations play a crucial role in society’s health condition. However, some people argue that these companies should predominantly focus on its benefits, instead of the people and their health. I disagree with the statement and believe that medical enterprises should orient on individuals for several reasons.
On one hand, people’s well-being should be a main priority for healthcare sphere. The Hippocatic Oath, which takes responsibility for citizens’ health, professionalism, and empathy as the substantial foundation for medicine, demonstrates that it is society-oriented industry that should work on its prosperity. Consequently, focusing only on the income would be amoral occasion that will not only destroy the basics, but also lead to mortality rate increase and eventual humanity disappearance. For example, the invention of COVID-19 vaccine in 2020 showed how pace of medical personnel in research and their desire to help patients can prevent the development of worldwide catastrophe.
From the other hand, medical companies are in financial demand for the innovations, treatment methods development, and medication supplies that are pricey. Mostly, health markets rely on the government support or external investments. Therefore, emphasizing the profitability is reasonable. For example, according to the Worldwide Health Organisation, Moderna biotechnological company spended about 2 billion dollars to invent the COVID-19 vaccine, which is considered as the most expensive medical innovation in the history. Moreover, as the poor countries can not afford a highly-priced drugs, companies see a little motivation to develop treatments for these areas.
All things considered, with the medical development, many people started discussing on either the sphere should highlight low-income individuals or their finances. From my perspective, medicine should be concentrated on people to prevent increased death rates and keep high morality.
