An excessive amount of packaging has caused the issue that who will be responsibility for it–supermarket, manufacturers and consumers. Some argue that businesses should implement comprehensive strategies, while others contend that consumers should make a conscious decision to purchase. In this essay, I will examine both perspectives and articulate my viewpoint.
On the one hand, supermarket and producers can play a crucial role in reducing waste, as they are in charge of producing and selling. They have the capacity to introduce sustainable and innovative variations, such as compostable materials or packaging with minimalist design. Therefore, businesses can make a big difference compared to an individual. Governments can also regulate companies and offer tax alleviation for their eco-friendly initiatives. If businesses switch to sustainable practices, customers will be able to choose environmentally friendly choices without changing their habits.
On the other hand, it has been said that consumers should fulfill their duty by avoiding to buy overly wrapped products. Consumers’ demand set a market trend and if people do not buy unsustainable products, it can make a huge pressure on producers. This approach does not only enable people to make educated decisions, but it also raises awareness about sustainability. However, focusing on only customers might be impractical because many individuals prefer convenience, cost-efficiency and the quality rather than its influences on environment.
In conclusion, I believe that although consumers’ choice could have an impact on the market, the main responsibility must be placed on producers as they have authorities to implement the nationwide difference. However, inspiring people to support sustainable initiatives is crucial to create the collaboration to protect ecosystem.
