The development of the internet was intended for military purposes, but later it transitioned to communicating among scientists, and now it is in everyone’s hand. There is a constant argument among people that the internet will overtake newspapers and magazines for news delivery means. I completely agree with this statement.
Generally speaking, people prefer the transfer speed over the means of information. The news is covered on websites and social media applications way more quickly than conventional newspapers. For instance, the news of the dispute between the mayor of Kathmandu and the Road division went viral on Facebook (an internet-based social media app) on the same day, however, different magazines printed it the very next day. Most people were not interested in the news as they had already learned about it earlier.
Another factor that should be considered is convenience. The advancement of smartphones has contributed a significant portion to changing the way we use the internet. It is more convenient to read news articles on phones compared to going to the market and buying an old-school newspaper. On top of that, one needs to spend a considerably small amount of money on the internet for information in comparison to newspapers.
Additionally, magazines need to publish different advertisements to overcome the production cost, as news and information do not pay the cost. So, a significant portion of a newspaper is occupied by ads rather than the actual incident, which annoys the reader quite often.
In conclusion, I must say that the method of delivery of information and convenience plays a considerable role in choosing the medium for news transfer, and indeed, the most preferred means for information and news delivery will be the internet.
