People tend to hold differing views about whether an effective public transport system is the most important requirement of a modern city or not. While some believe that public transport is the key to a successful city, others, myself included, see greater benefits of other important elements.
On the one hand, it can be argued that there are two clear benefits that an effective public transport system brings to a city. The first advantage is that it helps reduce traffic congestion. When people use buses or subways instead of private cars or motobikes, there will be fewer vehicles on the road that lead to smoother traffic flow. Additionally, public transport can reduce pollution level. This is primarily because by encouraging people to use public transport, fewer emissions are released into the atmosphere, which helps improve the environment and the health of citizens.
On the other hand, it can be argued that there are other essential aspects why a modern city should focus on more than just transport. Firstly, good infrastructure, including houses, hospitals, and water systems, is essential for citizens to live comfortable. Without these basic facilities, the best transport system cannot ensure good quality of life. Secondly, education and job opportunities should also be developed so people can improve their future and contribute to society. For example, when a city builds more schools and offers more jobs, young people can study and work in local area instead of moving to other places.
In conclusion, although I acknowledge that an effective public transport system is very important, I would contend that other factors are equally vital for a modern city. A balance should be struck between two to achieve the best outcome.
