In contemporary society, a job plays a significant role in a person’s life. While some people think that it is better to develop your social network with people who are not your colleagues, some people give a point that a job can also provide a social life along with the income. I would discuss both viewpoints and then give my perspective.
On one hand, there is a viewpoint that it is better not to let your social life relate to your job. This perspective shows that one’s personal life should be independent of one’s job as it can cause limitation and unbalance between your work and your daily life. Moreover, relationships outside of work can offer a wide range of feelings, emotions, approach to more interesting activities and different views. Furthermore, having a separate social circle can reduce stress and depression from work, provide a stable and emotional support, maintain a clear boundary between life and work since people do not have to worry about whether the topic is all about job, finance or promotion, which is hard to avoid conflicts about these kinds of topics.
On the other hand, a job can bring several highlight advantages to develop your social life. Firstly, a strong connection between you and colleagues is built, it helps to enhance the workplace’ environment to be more supportive and friendly. For example, team-building activities, projects are some kinds of ways to make everyone get together, facilitate bonding among employees and foster a sense of community. Besides, in office, colleagues often share their interests, hobbies or their future goals to everyone, which can lead to a meaningful and beneficial relationship for both. If the connection between you and your colleagues is strong enough, they can be a bridge to help you approach more people.
To conclude, building connections between colleagues is absolutely important to one’s life, especially the workplace’s environment. Developing friendships in office can enhance the work experience and provide a sense of community, however, friendships without work-related may bring a more comfortable feeling and a sense of belonging. I firmly believe that both have their own advantages, and learning how to balance your relationships within or without the workplace can enrich your social life to be more fulfilling and stable.
