Band 5+: Some people think it is more important to spend money on roads and motorways than on public transport system. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

There is a debate regarding the social problem. It is said that the government should invest more money on constructing roads and motorways rather than spending money in the public transport system. Personally, I strongly believe that the fund should be used in the public transportation.

It is true that government spend money to build roads and motorways which will bring a lot of benefits. The roads and motorways can make citizens living more convenient. For instance, many wealth family prefer driving the vehicles for traveling or working in China, because the self-driving have more freedom than public transportation which can not reach some places like suburban and remote area. Additionally, The condition of roads and motorways reflect the basic situation of the city. For example, the Paris in order to leave a good impression to athletes who come from around the world maintained all roads and motorways before the Olympic game. Hence, the Paris government improve the city image successfully by improving the roads. However, the government maintains the roads and motorways using more money than improving the public transportation. If the government can divert the money that would have been used on roads to the buses or undergrounds, government will save a lot of money which can spend on other areas.

Moreover, the public transport system reduces the environment pollution. If the government develops and maintains and road, which will highly motivate the demand of cars, the carbon dioxide emission will increase dramatically, hurting the forest and ozone. Beside that, the public transportation is suitable for more citizens. For example, China still have a large number of poor people who only afford the bus or metro fee. If the government ignore to build and maintain the public transportation, many people commuting to company will become harder.

To conclude, while I do not believe that the government spend the fund in the roads and motorways, i think that the public transportation such as buses and undergrounds should be maintained well.
