Nowadays, many people are selling their cars and switching to bicycles, claiming that they are more effective to travel in a city, while others still strongly believe that cars are the best way to do so. In this essay, both views will be discussed, as well as why I advocate for the first approach.
One of the main reasons why citizens find a car more useful than a bicycle on a daily basis is its practical side for working people. To illustrate, a vehicle is always a faster option to transport from home to work, people with bicycles will often spend more time on their commute and will usually have to wake up earlier in the morning, not to mention that they may end up sweating and smelling bad when arriving to work. Another factor for preferring a car is its safety, especially for traveling families. An automobile is always equipped with the latest accident-preventer technologies, ensuring a safer and friendly ride. In contrast, a bicyclist is constantly exposed to danger, particularly in undeveloped and crowded cities that lack specialized roads for bicycles where they can be hit by any other vehicle.
On the other hand, traveling on a bicycle also has its own benefits. Firstly, as most people nowadays are slightly physically active, picking a bike to transport can be an alternative way to exercise, as a result, citizens will experience a healthier life and well-being. Secondly, bikes are environment-friendly, unlike vehicles which continuously emit huge amounts of carbon dioxides resulting in air pollution. Finally, with the rise of fuel prices nowadays especially in developing countries like Morocco, people now see a bicycle as a cost-friendly and affordable to travel since it demands only physical activity to function.
In conclusion, it is true that cars are a more practical and safer choice to travel in a city. However, with the increase in problems like traffic jams, air pollution, and physical inactivity of the majority of citizens, using a bike is healthier and more effective.
