In this day and age, because of the nonstop development of online film platforms, many people claim that cinemas will not be able to persist in the future. From my perspective, I strongly disagree with this belief for several reasons.
At first, the main reason that helps cinemas stay in business is their ability to enhance the customers’ experience, which cannot be fully received from watching online. To clarify, every factor in cinemas is an improved version of the devices that people usually own to watch movies, even if they invest in them. The expensive sound system, huge screen, or maybe the claps and laughs from other audiences obviously elevate the movie-goers’ experience to a new height, compared to their laptops, for example. Consequently, this convenience gives the customers a reason to return, resulting in the stability of the revenue.
Turning to the mental experience, cinemas also boost the expectation and excitement of the customers before and during the film. Indeed, cinemas always reveal advertisements and trailers of the movie before they release it. This repetitively appears in daily customers’ vision and makes that movie first pop up in their mind when they think about relaxing or hanging out. Day by day, the higher customers’ curiosity increases, the more satisfied they will be when they enjoy the movie; however, this may have the opposite impact if the film is not really good. In fact, after the movie Endgame from Marvel released, advertisements invested in a huge amount of money. The result is that most people heard about it and want to watch the movie as soon as possible, so of course they chose cinemas instead of online platforms.
In conclusion, I do not believe that cinemas will close because of the convenience of online streaming services, which is not better than movie theaters’ servicing and other advertising campaigns.
