Professional sport could be pretty risky so it is argued whether such sport disciplines should be prohibited or allowed. On the one hand, undergone athletes, especially if they are underage, to danger just for public entertainment is wrong. On the other hand, professional sport has always been going beyond the limits of the human body, that premise some risks. So I tend to agree with them who believe that people should have choice.
Some people think that risky sport should be banned, because watching how people put themselves in danger contradicts humanity principles. There were a few of deadly accidents and a lot of serious injuries happened to professional sportsmen. Do sport achievements worth human’s life or health? Moreover many athletes are underage, which makes existing of such sport even more questionable. For example, some years ago, during the Olympics, an athlete died because his sled flew off the road. Another example Soviet’s famous artistic gymnast became got serious trauma, practicing a complex element , trauma made her disabled in a wheelchair for rest of her life. However in my opinion there are a lot of ordinal activities apart from sport which include existential risk. For example miners work, or builders. But we do not rush to ban these occupations.
Others believe that people should be free to choose. Professional sport professional is about to go out normal human limits, which implicitly includes some risks. How will we choosing which sport should be restricted and which allowed? I think to find this demarcation line between safe and dangerous sport would be extremely difficult. But even if we found this, many athletes world be deprived from career opportunities while spectators missed many of their favourite athletics events. For many athletes sport is a meaning of life. They spend years mastering their skills, so why anybody should decide which would be better for them. For example, Russian famous figure skater Elena Berezhnaya was injured during one of championships. She undergone two serious surgeries, but she went back to sport as soon as she recovered and won Olympic Games later.
This example show us that sportsmen can do informed decision and choose sport, despite all the treats.
To conclude, even though sport could be dangerous, it should be up to athletes whether they want to take risk or not.
