Band 6+: Some people think that global warming is a natural phenomenon. Some others think otherwise, saying that it is caused by human activities. Discuss both these views and give your opinion.

The issue of warming, marked by rising temperatures on Earth has sparked a lot of discussion in todays world. Some people believe that this warming is a process while others argue that it is mainly caused by human activities. In this essay I will explore both sides of the argument before sharing my own opinion. Supporters of the view that global warming is a phenomenon present arguments based on historical climate changes. They point to events like the Ice Age and periods of warming and cooling that occurred long before human industrialization. From this perspective it is suggested that the Earth goes through cycles, in its climate driven by factors like changes in radiation, volcanic eruptions and shifts in its orbit. Those who hold this view argue that the current warming patterns should be seen as part of these natural cycles rather than being solely attributed to human actions.

In contrast a wealth of studies shows that human actions are the driving force behind todays global warming. The process of industrialization has resulted in fuel burning, widespread deforestation and the release of gases like carbon dioxide and methane into the atmosphere. These gases are known for their heat trapping properties contributing to the increase in temperatures. Evidence supporting this perspective reveals a strong link between the rise in temperatures and the intensification of activities particularly the significant surge in carbon emissions since the onset of the revolution. Climate models also demonstrate that the current rate of warming would not be happening so rapidly without human influence.

To sum up although certain people believe that warming is primarily caused by occurring natural processes the significant role of human actions should not be overlooked. The possible consequences of failing to take action are dire highlighting the urgency of global efforts to decrease emissions and embrace practices. I firmly believe that acknowledging and addressing the impact of human activities is essential, in reducing the effects of climate change and protecting the planet for generations to come.
