People are divided on the importance of choosing subjects at the university. Many commentators are of the view that the government should take rule for select subjects, whereas others assert that learners should be prioritized to apply for the subject they prefer. In this essay, I intend to analyze both perspectives. I, however, side with the former view.
To begin with, perhaps the main reason why people believe that the government should be engaged to decide subjects is because nowadays the number of students is increasing day by day so that the sits for each subject is also experiencing a downward trend. In addition, government has to provide place for applied students. To cite an example, the government of Bangladesh provide subjects for students based on merit list.
On the other hand, those who think that it is right for every student to choose the subject, give their reasons as follows. One primary reason is that if the students are able to choose their preferable subject via they may get satisfaction which is most important for any student. What is more, they would be free from restrictions and pressures that provide by the government. Furthermore, it is a great obstacle for many students who belong from science background, if they are engaged to study with business or management due to their rest of the previous study will be worthless.
From my perspective, I honestly believe that there should be no barrier from the government to choose subjects, those applied by students.I think it is a human right and every citizen has to be attached with satisfaction.
To sum up, I believe that there are merits of both situations, but on the whole, it would be better to leave the choice to students to select their subjects.
