Of those issues that have concerned countries, how to deal with health-related concerns is one of the most prominent. Some argue that authorities should provide people with healthy food options like fruits and vegetables for concessional rates, others believe that officials should receive tax for unhealthy foods. Both points of view will be analyzed below.
On the one hand, proponents, including myself, believe that making healthy food more cost-effective than other options can significantly reduce people’s serious health complications. In other words, when fruit and vegetables are available for societies at lower prices, individuals are more likely to consume these healthy foods rather than unhealthy options, leading to strengthening people’s immune systems and decreasing the risk of various diseases associated with unhealthy food consumption. Moreover, they argue that vegetarianism can protect biodiversity and preserve natural resources, resulting in a decline in meat-based product consumption and reducing the severe consequences of agricultural animals on land.
On the other hand, opponents contend that the government should regulate strict policies to get heavy taxes from unhealthy food consumers. To put it another way, to discourage people from consuming non-healthy foods, the state should force food suppliers, supermarkets, and restaurants to receive an extra fee from people choosing unhealthy options. For instance, in the USA, the government allocated financial incentives to food suppliers offering consumers more healthy products. Moreover, delivering unhealthy food at a high cost can change people’s food choices.
In conclusion, while some argue that offering people more affordable food options can benefit individuals and the environment, others think that receiving tax from unhealthy food consumers is more effective than other strategies. In my opinion, a balanced approach is the best way to tackle this concern, officials should invest in offering society a cost-effective healthy menu and delivering more expensive unhealthy options.
