It is often argued that hosting an international sports event is good or bad for the country. In my opinion, I agree that hosting an international sports event is good as long as the country is prepared enough to host, as it offers a lot of chances for international exposure to the country and have many other benefits.
Sports is one of the field that has a lot of fans from around the world and people love to support their country as their nationalism, which means that there are a lot of people that have interest in the event and would like to join. If this chance can be maximized by country, the culture can be shown and advertised to another country, that can lead to international exposure that important for business, media, etc.
For instance, people that didn’t know anything about the country’s culture can understand it by watching the decoration in event, the traditional dance in the opening ceremony and many cultural things that added. If the country can wrap the event to be exciting and memorable, the audiences can gain curiousity and end up exploring about the country. From business perspective it also beneficial because their target can be widen to international audience, not only the local people.
In the other hand, taking chance to host the event also can lead to bad impact if the country not prepared and ready enough to handle all of the organizing tasks and risks. For example the country didn’t have any experience to organize big event with the big audience, it can have a big probability that the country will need more time to learn and prepare. If the time is short and the country cannot give a proper events, it can make the face of country bad, as the event was the thing that other country see.
In conclusion, although hosting international sports event has chance to make a bad impact to the country, I believe that it also can lead to great impact if the event is wrapped properly and nicely.
