Nowadays, international tourism is considered a key part of global integration. Tourists broaden their outlook by discovering various traditions, customs, and lifestyles. However, some people believe that international tourism not only increases understanding and mutual respect but also leads to tensions between countries.
Firstly, global tourism creates conditions for various traditions to better understand each other. When people get to know each other’s traditions, cuisines, and lifestyles, their stereotypes decrease, and a sense of global citizenship increases. Furthermore, visitors’ expenses positively affect the local economy, create new workplaces, and improve the welfare of the local population. This also leads to increased collaboration between countries. Moreover, the travel industry may strengthen cultural connections among nations and contribute to building friendly relationships.
Secondly, exploration can lead to the loss of local culture or commercialization in some situations. As a result, this also leads to dissatisfaction among the local population. Additionally, ecological problems caused by globetrotting, such as pollution, exhaustion of natural resources, and social injustices like increasing costs, negatively impact the living conditions of the natives. Some sightseers do not respect indigenous traditions or display cultural sensitivity, which leads to misunderstanding and dissatisfaction.
Consequently, I agree that worldwide tourism primarily promotes understanding, but I acknowledge that it can create problems in the process. Governments and representatives of the tourism sector should implement policies that promote intercultural dialogue, amplify the advantages, and decrease the drawbacks of tourism. This suggests that tourism may be an effective means for understanding and peace.
