Some people believes that it is not important for professional atheletes to behave properly on or off the field, as long as they always keep up to their performances. In my opinion, I truly opposed this statement because these proffesional sports people are everyone’s role models and this action can split the local community.
Professional sportsmen and sportswomen commonly are role models to the whole community. People tend to follow how these people act and the way they dress. If these athletes show non-moral attitude, some people might as well copy them, especially children because they think it is cool to behave in a particular way. Sports fanatic people all around the world often back up misbehaviours of their idolized atheletes even though they clearly know it is wrong to treat others in that way, and uknowingly these fandoms might also reflect these behaviours. Therefore, most people will lost moral values and respect to others.
Misbehaviours of professional athletes might as well cause enmity in our society. This is because people often backing up their favourite atheletes, and accusing the other fandoms if conflicts occur on or off the field, without actually analyse the root of those problems: the way atheletes act. Commonly, Malaysian sports fanatics that support different football clubs always fight with each other at the stadium after the match end because they are so sensitive of the mocking behaviour of opponent’s atheletes.
In conclusion, I disagree that professional sportsmen or sportswomen are allowed to misbehave because they are idols to the community and this might form barrier among individuals in our society.
