In this modern day, it is commonly seen that children are given overly excessive latitude. From my perspective, I totally disagree with the statement for a number of reasons that are explained further in this essay.
On the one hand, there are several compelling rationales supporting the claim that compared to previous time, children in this era can enjoy greater autonomy. The most striking one is that they are less subjected to parental intervention, even in important life decisions. This can be perfectly exemplified by those who make their own final ruling in their university choice, career path and marriage, all of which are the most impactful ones in every individual’s life. In addition, such technological advancements have allowed them to raise their voice about social issues on online platforms and express their personal traits. Threads, a newly- established communication app, has attracted a great number of young users to freely share their opinions on current events, including professional life, academic pursuits, healthcare advice or even daily tips, giving rise to thousands of constructive debates.However, I would opine that this high level of freedom should not be considered abundant on the grounds that it has paved the way for children’s holistic development. Those with such autonomy to show their characteristic are more likely to enjoy greater confidence and flexibility. Students in international schools can be deemed as a prime example, since this motivating environment encourages them to share their thoughts freely, giving rise to improved public-speaking and problem-solving skills. Moreover, this can also be synonymous with better childcare and guidance as parents can profoundly understand their offspring’s needs, due to which suitable child-rearing method would be adopted.
In conclusion, increased autonomy among children is due to less parental supervision and numerous technological breakthroughs. Nevertheless, not only does this facilitate the formation of positive personal traits but giving them such enormous freedom can also lead to more informed decisions in parenting style.
