The idea of how to manage the fresh water usage is often discussed. While many people argue that individuals should have the freedom to use fresh water as they see fit, others, including me, believe it is perfectly justifiable for the governments to impose strict controls to regulate the water usage.
Granted, proponents of freedom to use water might highlight that allowing people to use water unrestricted is based on human rights as water is a basic human necessity. However, currently, individuals have to pay for the amount of water they use for some purposes such as agriculture, production and leisure activities, which causes the inconvenience. By allowing people to use water freely, the financial burden would be lessened, especially for those who have poor living quality. One possible consequence is that people will feel convenient and willing to contribute for the society because their right to use water freedomly is accepted by the governments
In spite of the above argument, I support the view that the government should restrict water usage. The main benefit is that it solves the issue of water shortage. In doing so, authorities can control the amount of water used in their countries and people will be careful because they have to pay for it. Therefore, a large amount of water can be economized and used for important purposes such as agriculture and manufacturing. In my view, water is a scare resources and it is crucial to introduce regulations on the water usage as it reduce a large amount of water wasted.
In conclusion, although using water is individuals’ basic right, they should not be given unlimited usage of water resources and they should follow the government’s regulation to use it efficient and economically
