People hold contrasting opinions regarding the competitiveness existed in academic institutions. While some believe competitive schools affect negatively students, others support that these institutions have positive impacts on the learners. This essay will discuss both perspectives before explainig why learning in friendlier environments prepare better learners for their future.
Individuals who support learning in more challenging places claim that this adapt students earlier to stress and pressure existed in the job market. Learners have to find their study strategies in a short period of time, in order to outstand in a class. This relates to their future working atmosphere, as they will required to complete extensive tasks within a short amount of time. Consequently, the skills of effective work and the adaptation to work under stress adquired in their academic career will conduce them to better performance in their professional career.
Meanwhile, competitive learning places lead to several drawbacks. Students frequently prefer to work induvidually, promoting exclusion and personal recognition. They often tend to seek fame and recognition, causing tension between their peers. Learners can intentionally lead others into trouble or to leave some students out of group projects, so that they can be the top students. For instance, giving false resumes to sick classmates or excluding learners with more difficulties from work in group happens in more challenging learning environments. Thus, these students enter the job market without the fundamental traits of being supportive, inclusive and being able to work in peers. I find this view more convincing, as these caracteristics are inevitable to obtain any achievement.
To conclude, despite competitive schools encourange students to incorperate with stress and pressure, I believe that these instutions have critical negative impacts on learners, avoiding the coorperation and inclusion that must exist, not only in the academic career, but also in their future, so that success can be achieved.
